For as long as Peter Nureyev can remember, he’s been able to see ghosts. It was a useful skill for a kid on the streets of Brahma but he has since found limited use for it within the rest of the galaxy. That is, until he meets Juno Steel and his twin, undetected by the detective for two decades.
A friendly ghost can be very useful for a lot of things, such as cheating at cards, being an invisible lookout in an ancient Martian tomb, or even as an emotional translator for his grumpy twin. With Benten now along for the adventure, it changes the course of Juno and Nureyev’s lives, from their very first meeting, all the way to the fight against the THEIA for the soul of Hyperion.

At the annual Houston RenFest we’d always get one or two furries that walk around and every time the general reaction from the medieval roleplayers is akin to “BEASTS? BEASTS THAT WALK LIKE MAN? FOUL!”
Last time I went a furry volunteered for an impromptu conversion/exorcism and a guy dressed as a monk gathered a bunch of people and using a Gatorade bottle performed an entire catholic christening while reading off the instructions on his Ipad. When the furry was fully “converted” he removed the head of his costume and everyone in the crowd pretended to freak out and say shit like “GlORY BE HE IS SAVED” “CHRIST HAS BROKEN HIS CURSE”

Back in 2015 or so, I went to a faire that was taking place near one of those “frozen in time” Victorian-era reenactment villages - the ones with bakeries, a blacksmith, farm animals and the like.
The actors from the village took great delight in showing up at the joust, dressed in 1890s clothing and declaring themselves to be time travellers “from the future, the far-off year of 1892!”
Unless you speak whatever the language in this is (maybe Russian? It sounds at least related to Russian), you won’t understand exactly what they’re saying
You will however, understand exactly what they’re saying from the context of the video
And you will get to hear this person’s wonderful laughter

the most disorienting thing thats ever happened to me was when a linguistics major stopped in the middle of our conversation, looked me in the eye, and said, “you have a very interesting vernacular. were you on tumblr in 2014?” and i had to just stand there and process that one for a good ten seconds
it is one thing to be a linguist and another to be a linguist who knows enough of 2010s Tumblr to spot one of its enjoyers
I’m not sure what’s more concerning here: the idea that the Tumblr vernacular, a principally written idiom, is discernible in spoken communication, or the fact that if you click through to the original post, its contents appear to have been replaced at some point in the last two months with Minecraft YouTuber fanfic.
